Troop takes 2nd place at first Resolute Challenge Camporee

By Alex D.

Everybody had a blast at the Resolute Camporee. We got to our campsite at around 6:30pm to set up our tents. Our Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader for the weekend, went off to a leadership meeting to learn about the schedule for the next day, while the rest of the troop got ready for the challenges the next morning. The next day, we got ready for our action-packed day with some delicious bacon and eggs for breakfast and then lined up and headed off to the waterfront for the opening ceremony.

We had 10 challenges to complete. We started with the eagle-eye, a challenge of memorization in which we got 2nd only by 2 points! But the best parts of the challenges were fire-building with a 6 min 17 sec to burn a string around 1.5ft above a fire, and knot tying, where we had to tie a square knot, bowline, figure eight, clove hitch, and timber hitch twice, in less than 4 minutes! We got 1st place in those two, and overall, out of 30 patrols, we got 2nd place, and the Pepsi Rats will forever be on Resolute’s walls.

After all the awards, we got to see some skits and songs from the Resolute staff, like Timmy and the scientist, the radio station, and many others also. We ate Impossible kebabs for dinner, which people say were pretty good, and then ate apple crumble, which was amazing. On Sunday morning, we packed up, ate some bagels and yogurt, and left camp at 7:30am, getting to Amvets at 9:00am.
